FAQ

The Answers You Need

WILL MY AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS BE SAFE FOR CONSUMPTION AFTER FUMIGATION?

Fumigation using Methyl bromide & Magnesium Phosphide has been used extensively for agricultural products worldwide. Very important, the dosage of the fumigant to be used in comparison to the volume of the goods must be in compliance to local regulations. Bromide and Phosphine residues can be harmful and toxic to the human nervous system. Be sure that you only use licensed fumigation companies that has been approved by NEA & NParks in Singapore.

HOW LONG CAN THE FUMIGATION LAST?

Generally, Methyl Bromide fumigation is left for 24 hours prior to ventilation which has an estimated effective span of 21 days. Magnesium Phosphide fumigation requires 72 hours prior to ventilation which also has an effective span of 21 days. As such, containers for export has to be properly scheduled so as to ensure the arrival time does not exceed the effective duration.

HOW DO YOU ENSURE THAT THE FUMIGATION IS EFFECTIVE?

Studies have shown that the mortality rate of Sitophilus Oryzae at the highest lethal concentration time 50 (LCt50) at 20 degree C for 4 hours is 100%. However certain species of insects have evolved to be resistant to the chemicals over time.

Even so, our local ambient temperature is 31 degrees celsius, as such our applied dosage which is almost 1.5x the lethal concentration & 6 times longer at 24 exposure hours gives assurance to the mortality of the insects.
